Mahad Nagar Parishad saw the Congress (I) and the Nationalist
Congress party (NCP) pitted against each other, albeit not directly – for the post of President of
the Nagar Parishad Mahad, but Finally the NCP emerged victorious.
It is the First time in the History of
Mahad Nagar Palika, that a leader from the Minority – Muslim community has been
elected to the esteemed post of President.
The election for the post of president was
held on Friday, 29th – October – 2010 in the Nagar Palika convention hall.
Mr. Bhausaheb Patangare – Regional Officer,
Mahad, presided over the special meeting held for the election. The meeting
started around 2.00 pm.
When the attendance roll call was taken the
officers realized that the name of Mr. Sunil Vasant Kaviskar – Shahar Vikas
Aghadi Candidate, was missing for the list, which was instantly revised on the
instance of the presiding authority.
Therafter the meeting was conducted
smoothly and all the 17 councilors – Nagar Sevaks of the Nagar Parishad cast
their vote.
There after Mr. Bhausaheb announced the
result which went in favour of Mr. Mehboob Kadvekar. He got 9 of the total 17
votes, whereas Mr. Sunil Kaviskar got 7 votes. Mr. Raje Bhosle – Independent
Councilor decided to remain neutral and not cast his vote.
Mr. Mehboob’s 9 votes comprised of 2 of his
own party men and the remaining 6 votes came from his allies in the Shiv Sena.
The election of the First Minority
President is being hailed as a milestone in the political dynamics of Mahad.
