Mahad- Keeping in mind the
huge traffic flow on the Mumbai- Goa Highway the Government has decided to
increase the number of lanes on the highway to four.
Starting from Phalaspe-
Indapur- Kashedi in Raigad District the road will be converted to four lanes
within few years. The government has started securing the land in these areas
to increase the lanes.
The registrar’s offices of Panvel, Roha and Mangaon are
busy with people’s demands for compensation for their lands.
The Mumbai-Goa Highway also
known as NH-17 is one of the most popular of the state highways. Starting from
Phalaspe in Raigad the highway stretches till Goa.
Due to the presence of
Industrial zones in Roha, Nagothane and Mahad the traffic has increased
tremendously over the years and there is an annual increase of 8 % in traffic
flow which has resulted in number of accidents.
Keeping in mind the accident
ratio and increased traffic besides the demands and the protests of the people
and the media, the government has given green signal to increase the number of lanes from two to
four.
The construction work has already begun on these highways which has given
some relief to the public.
