Home >> News >> Mumbai - Goa Highway to have four lanes

Mahad- Keeping in mind the huge traffic flow on the Mumbai- Goa Highway the Government has decided to increase the number of lanes on the highway to four.

Starting from Phalaspe- Indapur- Kashedi in Raigad District the road will be converted to four lanes within few years. The government has started securing the land in these areas to increase the lanes.

The registrar’s offices of Panvel, Roha and Mangaon are busy with people’s demands for compensation for their lands.

The Mumbai-Goa Highway also known as NH-17 is one of the most popular of the state highways. Starting from Phalaspe in Raigad the highway stretches till Goa.

Due to the presence of Industrial zones in Roha, Nagothane and Mahad the traffic has increased tremendously over the years and there is an annual increase of 8 % in traffic flow which has resulted in number of accidents.

Keeping in mind the accident ratio and increased traffic besides the demands and the protests of the people and the media, the government has given green signal to increase the number of lanes from two to four.

The construction work has already begun on these highways which has given some relief to the public.
