Alibag – Under the Panchayat Yuva Krida Abhiyaan (Youth Sports Project), the Panchayats of Mangaon, Roha, Tala, and Pen Talukas have been selected from Raigad District, for the development of playgrounds and sports activities.
Each of the selected panchayats has been allotted a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs, for sports development activities.
District Officer Mr. Subhash Sonavane made this announcement at the meeting of District Sports Complexes Committee and Panchayat Youth Sports Project Committee.
Under the Panchayat Youth Sports Project, every year 10% of the Gram panchayats in a District are selected for development of sports facilities like Stadiums, swimming pools, etc. and the elected panchayats receive an amount of Rs. 1 lakh each from the government.
Accordingly, for the year 2009-10 and 2010-11 a total of 164 Gram panchayats have been allotted funds.
A resolution was also cleared for inviting tenders for the construction of these Playgrounds and Swimming pools, etc.
An amount of Rs. 2 lakh has been approved for the development of the ground in front of the Alibag Sports Complex, in Alibag city. Mr. Sonavane suggested that the Alibag Municipal Corporation should also contribute in such endeavors.
Other eminent personalities present at the meeting were Mr. Raosaheb Shinde – Raigad District Police Chief, Dr. Jagannath Virkar – Deputy District Officer, Mr. Ganesh Chaudhary – Additional Chief Executive Officer of Raigad Zilla Parishad, Mr. Mote – Deputy Director Sports, Mr. Sanjay Mahadik – District Sports Officer and Mr. S. N. Nehulkar.
